My suggestion would be to make it as the hotkeys for stable or archery.
First row asdf, with forging and the follow-up upgrades as a, double-bit axe also a and so on.
Second row, (archer upgrades and hussar, cavalier) as y(z)xcv (althoug i sadly have x as idöl villager^^)
Alternatively Instead of yxcv you could use qwer.

I can only use default unit hotkeys as base keys without editing your settings (and I don't want to).
